Popis:	床谷文雄教授退職記念論文集 In Honor of Prof. Fumio TOKOTANI In Japan, an adult guardianship was established in 2000. Despite an increasingly aging society, this system remains under-utilized in Japan. In this paper, I will first explore the reasons why this system is not used in Japan. Trends regarding elderly care seems to affect this problem. Today, single-person households and elderly couple households are increasing, and family care cannot be expected to be sufficient in the future. The national government is requesting local governments to create systems in which local institutions actively intervene in the adult guardianship system. This paper then shows that this new system may play a role in maintaining the quality of work of adult guardians.
