Popis: | Due to an increase in foreign residents in Japan, more and more immigrant children are being enrolled in Japanese schools. Therefore, language and cultural differences have recently been given a greater educational focus. This study clarifies the educational practices that are being developed to include the native languages and cultures of immigrant students in Japan. The first half summarizes domestic and international education research on the inclusion of immigrant students' native languages and cultures and the educational issues faced by 1.5 generational students, and the second half presents several cases to examine these effects. The data were based on semi-structured interviews from four young students who entered Japanese junior and senior high schools after they immigrated to Japan. It was found that when they arrived in Japan, these students were placed in learning environments in which Japanese learning was prioritized, which made it difficult to maintain the proficiencies acquired in their home country and in other subjects due to the language barriers. Therefore, the use of native languages and culture in educational practices to elevate academic achievement and social capital was examined. Although different from their native tongue and cultural maintenance, these practices need to be considered when developing Japan's multicultural education. Therefore, this paper stresses on the important of developing educational environments that include immigrant students' native languages and cultures and show respect for these "multicultural resources." 論文 |
