Popis: Condition of elder people who are living alone at the central city area, where has a higher elder ra-tio and many latter period elders, was investigated and compared with the condition at the suburban area. In result, the following factors,which are related to elders who continue to live alone, have been figured out. 1. Regarding the means of ADL, there is a remarkable difference in that “is able to go shopping by themselves”for latter period elders, Elders often go shopping on foot. It is one factor for people who live alone that there are shops and department stores which carries necessary goods in a close dis-tance. 2. Many elders at the central city area tend to go traveling. A ragional factor that there are choices for transportation, such as a close station, influences over activity expansion of elders who live alone. 3. It is common in both areas that many elders think their children as emotional and means of sup-porters. The condition that they can depend on their children is assumed as a large factor to sup-port elders who live alone. 4. Elders at the central city area have been living alone for a long time, however, there is less relation-ships with neighbors and friends. The usage of social resources, such as helpers, has been observed.As a necessary action in future, human supports for individual needs are desired. 5. In both areas, the ratio that elders own their houses as an economical foundation is high. Owning a house is one factor that elders, who have pension income, can continue to live alone.
