Popis: This study aims to elucidate the relationship between arterial plasma potassium concentration ([K^+]_a) and ventilation, and evaluate the effect of hyperoxia on the ventilation- [K^+]_a relationship during incremental exercise testing in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We studied 16 male patients with COPD. Using a bicycle ergometer, each patient started to exercise with a work load of 25W, which was increased in steps of 5W in one minute intervals until the symptom-limited endpoint. The same trial with oxygen inhalation was also performed in 6 out of 16 patients.
