This text described the multiple meanings of the verbs toku and tokeru in addition to discussing the relation between these multiple meanings (the polysemic structure). Resultantly, it was acknowledged that there were eight equivocal different meanings acknowledged for toku and seven for tokeru. Furthermore, since these two verbs are a corresponding transitive/intransitive verb pair, the corresponding relationship between the different meanings of the verbs was also examined. The results of this examination clarified that the different meanings basically have a corresponding relationship. Moreover, the relation between the different meanings was considered by looking at the two types of symbolic language, metaphor and metonymy, and it was thus possible to clarify the relation among the different meanings. Finally, based on the results of a polysemy analysis, the research considered a method for effectively teaching people to learn all these different meanings. Specifically, a collocation for each different meaning was presented to promote learning, after which the examples of misuse that could be expected for each separate meaning were also presented and the causes and reasons for the misuse examined. |
