Data and information availability consist of lists of cetacean species, the presence of individual cetacean species by habitat type, species identification, fisheries-cetacean interaction, distribution and abundance of dugong, and conservation issues. Based on the Indonesia Government Decree No 8/1999 about utilization of wild animals and plant species, all species of cetaceans and sirenian are protected, exceptionally only for traditional hunting, and limited trade in local regions. The cetaceans are hunted by the people from the small villages in the east part of Indonesia.
