The objective of this study was to examine the flow structure for a laminar separated flow through a two-dimensional symmetric sudden-expansion channel of expansion ratio α. As a computational and analytical model of the expansion channel, the two-dimensional channel with backward-facing steps on both upper and lower walls was considered. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved numerically by the finite difference method. The caluculation was performed for the range of Reynolds number Re≦400. In this paper, the analytical prediction of the separated flow structure using the numerical results of the streamwise velocity on the centerline was made for the case of expansion α=2. The analytical results of the velocity profile and the distribution of pressure gradient were presented and were compared with that of numerical results. |
