Validity of personality development support for mentally impaired persons in different developmental stages

In this study, we conducted support intervention involving mentally impaired persons in different developmental stages who were hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital, using the factors of hobbies and interpersonal relationships, which aid in the development of their personality. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical validity of such an intervention by examining whether or not individualization (personality development) would be achieved among such patients. We conducted an intervention involving three mentally impaired persons in the preoperational (age: one and a half to two years), sensorimotor (seven to eight years), and concrete operational (11 to 12 years) stages, respectively, as defined by Piaget’s Developmental Stages, using the factors of hobbies and interpersonal relationships. As a result, it was clarified that the factors supporting individualization (personality development), which are necessary for patients with mental impairment in each stage, as stated by the authors, are applicable to mentally impaired persons in any developmental stage.研究の目的は、精神科病院に入院している発達段階の異なる知的障がい者に対して、それぞれの発達段階における知的障がい者のパーソナリティ形成支援となる「趣味的活動」「人との関わり」要素を用いて支援 ( 介入 ) することによって、知的障がい者の個人化(パーソナリティ形成)が実現できるかどうかの臨床的妥当性をみるものである。 ピアジェによる発達段階評価で、感覚運動期 (1 歳半から 2 歳まで )、前操作期 (7、8 歳まで )、具体的操作期 (11、12 歳まで ) にある知的障がい者それぞれ 1 名に対して、「趣味的活動」と「人との関わり」要素による介入を行ったところ、筆者らの述べるそれぞれの発達段階にある知的障がい者に必要な個人化(パーソナリティ形成)支援要素が各発達段階の知的障がい者すべてに適合することが明らかになった。
