Geographical survey institute carried out the study on the application of GIS for seismic hazard management and the research on the use of GIS in local government. The Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake revealed the potentiality of earthquakes in urban and suggested the necessity of development and employment of Geographic Information System for urban earthquake disaster mitigation and restoration. While considerable numbers of studies on the earthquake have been undertaken, majority of research centers the examination of visualized output of damage and possible factors, such as land condition, a residential area and a street structure. This paper attempts to investigate the relationship between damage of area and possible factors including historical land use and geographical structure by using GIS. A continuous examination of the mechanism of decreasing disaster risk would be especially important. |
