The purpose of this study was to determine bodily sensations during swimming races and the factors that influence these senses. 386 university students who belonged to university swimming clubs were subjected to this study by answering a questionnaire that consisted of 111 questions. As the result of factor analysis, the following eight factors were extracted; ‘influence that water temperature has on sense of swimming’, ‘influence that the size and type of the swimming pool has on sense of water’, ‘influence that size and type of the swimming pool has on sense of swimming’, ‘influence that nervousness has on sense of swimming’, ‘influence that physical condition has on sense of swimming’, ‘influence that the depth of the swimming pool has on sense of water’, ‘influence that the difference between relay races and individual races has on sense of swimming’ and ‘influence that water temperature has on sense of water’. The result of analysis of the subscale scores showed that the subjects who were categorized in low-level groups were more influenced than middle-level and high-level groups on senses of swimming and water by factors such as the shape of swimming pool, nervousness and physical condition. |
