Constructive education theory, which aims to provide a studentcentered, active, and reciprocal learning environment, has much to offer to those designing support courses for short-term study-abroad programs that are by nature constrained in a variety of ways. This paper describes and reviews the predeparture, on-site, and post-program training provided during an intercultural communication course that was offered by the author to a group of nine American students who were participating in a summer Japanese language Studyabroad Program at a university in Japan. |
