Popis: | [Synopsis] Hestina assimilis assimilis (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), an alien subspecies of H. assimilis, is originated from mainland China. This subspecies is expanding its distribution mainly in the Kanto district in Japan, and it was designated as a "Regulated Living Organisms under the Invasive Alien Species Act" in 2017. This study reports observation records of this subspecies in the Nara Campus of Kindai Univ. from June 2020 to September 2021. This is the first record in Nara City. Considering frequent observation of both adults and larvae in the recent two years, it is certain that they have become established in our campus. It was also observed in Mt. Ikoma. There are concerns about competition with the closely related native H. japonica that feeds on the same host tree, Celtis sinensis, in the campus, so it is necessary to pay close attention to future trends. |
