Popis: This paper discusses the significance of John Dewey's concept of "democracy as a way of life", in light of the religious experience and esthetic experience. In his later essay, Creative Democracy- The Task Before Us (1939), Dewey advocated democracy not only as a political system of government, but also as a social concept: "democracy as a way of life is controlled by personal faith in personal day-by-day working together with others." People can reorganize and enrich their experience through the art of communication. This process is animated and pervaded by the imagination. In Art as Experience (1934), Dewey describes this esthetic process as follows: "imaginative vision elicits the possibilities that are interwoven within the texture of the actual." Possibilities reach people through the imagination and guide them toward the next experience. This is what Dewey calls "religious experience, " in which he finds faith in the human capacity for intelligent judgment and action. "Democracy as a way of life" is achieved by this experience and it reanimates political democracy.
