Popis: In recent years, the importance of dialogue between laypersons and experts related to science and technology events has been increasing, and various forums for dialogue (hereinafter referred to as science and technology dialogue) have been established. The purpose of this paper is to examine the possibility of "incomprehension" within such science and technology dialogues. Therefore, I first describe how dialogues between non-experts and experts are carried out. Next, an overview of dialogues between laypersons and experts that has theoretically been regarded as meaningful in "understanding," such as consensus building and mutual understanding, is carried out. On the other hand, within empirical research, it has been pointed out that it is difficult for laypersons and experts to "understand each other," which can lead to "incomprehension.” Therefore, in this paper, the positive aspects of "incomprehension" within other research areas are summarized. Within science and technology dialogue, "incomprehension" may be an opportunity to critically reconsider one's own knowledge and increase autonomous involvement in the subject matter. Therefore, the identity of the participants can be highlighted, and it could be an opportunity to reveal a variety of potential problem settings.
