Statistical Observations on Tumors of the Ureter

Popis: Statistical analysis was performed on 20 cases of tumor of the ureter, including 5 cases of primary tumor, observed in our clinic during the period of 8 years from 1956 to 1963. Literatures were reviewed in regard to the ureteral tumors. 1. The prevalence of tumors of the ureter among a total of 6, 663 out patients was 0.08 % for primary tumor (5 cases) and 0.22 % for so called papillomatosis (15 cases), making 0.3 % for the total cases (20 cases). The sex ratio of primary, papillomatosis and total tumors were 3 to 2, 13 to 2 and 5.7 to 1 respectively with male dominant position. The highest prevalence was seen in patients of 7 th decade of age. 2. The most frequent chief complaint was hematuria w hich was seen in 90 % (18 cases) of total cases. Lower back pain and palpable tumor were the next frequent complaints. 3. Most of the cases, in both of primary ureteral tumor and so called papillomatosis, visited the clinic within 6 months after development of the initial symptom. 4. In both instances of primary ureteral tumor and so called papillomatosis, the renal function was found to be markedly deteriorated in the affected side. However, only few cases showed impairment of the total renal functions or increased NPN. 5. The right-left ratio of the affection in primary tumor, so called papillomatosis and total cases were 2 to 3, 5 to 10 and 7 to 13 resectively with the right side dominant.
