Popis: Black male undergraduates have unique experiences and come from diverse and varied backgrounds. However, much of the research on Black male undergraduates portrays them as a homogenous group and is focused on deficits, the factors that negatively influence their retention. This document presents a hermeneutical phenomenology design utilizing an anti-deficit framework to explore the experiences that enabled the successful retention and persistence of Black men enrolled at Tom King College, a small, private, Christian, liberal arts college in the Midwest. This study builds on Harper’s (2012) “National Black Male Achievement Study”, and adds to the body of scholarly literature focused on the development, persistence, and retention of Black male undergraduates.
