VTT's research program on surface technology accomplished in 1991-1993 focused on a few selected and current subjects in surface tecnology in order to create deeper understanding of the problems relevant to future developments and technologies to be used by the Finninsh industries. The topics of the program included diamond and diamond like coating technologies, surface phenomena of stainless steels in sulphur containing environments and interface phenomena in metal matrix composites, coatings and diffusion bonding. The results of the program are presented in this symposium proceedings and in more details in the technical reports and articles published in the course of the projects. During the course of the program many changes occurred especially among the participating industries where the economical recession that Finland has experienced over the past few years has resulted in many structural changes. However, the main goals of the program were achieved and I would like to thank all the participants - those who have worked for the projects as well as the management committeé members for their valuable contributions to this program. |
