Popis: | Herpes simplex virus has been recognized with increased frequency as an opportunistic invader of the esophagus in immunosuppressed or debilitated patients. However, we recently encountered a case of herpes esophagitis in an otherwise healthy 23-year-old college student, in whom the diagnosis was initially suspected on a double-contrast esophagram. While herpes esophagitis has occasionally been reported in “immunocompetent” patients [1 -5], this subject has received little attention in the radiologic literature. |
