Évaluer, une pratique pour comprendre et s'adapter au contexte : le cas de l’évaluation d’un dispositif d’aménagement du temps scolaire en lycée

Popis: Drawing on a study, realised for a local institution, the author identifies evalua tion issues concerning school staff and researchers. Actually, a high school has implemented a flexible timetable so as to adjust working hours (Reynolds, 1996) ; our purpose is to assess its impact. Therefore, standards (Figari, 1994) have been set up, which state assessing criteria and indicators. Students, teachers and the headteacher are contacted using questionnaires and interviews. The following facts are noticed : better relationships between students and teachers, within the students'' groups as well as different levels of teachers’ involvement. As for the researchers, this evaluation stresses that they can improve their knowledge concerning the way people figure out schooling and the way teachers get railed round to improve working conditions. As for the school staff, this evaluation process was useful to (1) implement and develop this new approach over two years and (2) to be accountable to educational authorities in order to carry on with such a project. Furthermore, this research raises methodological issues as well as ethical ones.
