| Popis: | A political program of the functionality of the Brazilian literature towards civilization has been established since the 30s of the 19th century. Concerning the backcountry literature, Taunay is the one who started in his discussions the pairs, “sertao-atraso/civilizacao-cidade” (wilderness-backwardness/civilization-city) in Innocence(1872), describing the hinterland, in an independent way, at the beginning of the novel, especially in its geophysical, demographic and custom aspects. It is a chapter that has its own life, of an essayistic tone more than a romanesco one, which consolidates the hinterland as a category of Brazilian social thought to be used in the interpretation of the national reality thereafter... |
