Popis: | Results of an analysis and a digital computer simulation of various control loops for ion thruster control are presented. The concept considered for controlling the thrust of an ion thruster over a 2-to-l range in output power is to vary the propellant flowrate as both the specific impulse and propellant utilization are maintained at constant values. Thrusters employing oxide cathodes and utilizing mercury as propellant are analyzed extensively with a detailed digital computer simulation. It was necessary to use nonoptimum efficiency thruster to obtain a stable system when a propellant flow rate meter is not used. The use of a propellant flow rate meter makes higher thruster efficiencies usable in a stable configuration. |
