Popis: «Before anyone else did it, Christopher Columbus itself interpreted the discovering of the New World, which he thought were India, as an event forecasted in the Holy Scriptures. Between 1502 and 1504 he wrote a small book known as «The Book of Prophecies» in order to justify, from both a providencialist point of view and an allegoric or typological interpretation of the Scriptures, that his discovering was associated to the fulfillment of two main objectives: 1) the evangelization of India, and 2) the recovery of Jerusalem to Christendom, an enterprise financed through the gold and wealth obtained in the recently discovered lands. These objectives were understood by Columbus in an apocalyptical key, as its fulfillment should precede the end of times and the Second Coming of Christ».
