Popis: In the first part of this chapter, the metal/silicate partitioning of siderophile elements and how they may be used to understand planetary core formation is summarized. In the second part of this chapter, the understanding of mineral-melt fractionation of minor and trace elements at high pressures and temperatures is summarized and the implications for mantle differentiation is discussed. Finally, the effect of olivine flotation on the upper mantle Ni/Co ratio is discussed.
