Meeyoo Centre for Advanced Materials and Environmental Research, Mahanakorn University of Technology, Bangkok 10530, Thailand (Received 17 July 2007, in nal form 22 August 2007) Hybrid polymer solar cells consisting of a network of poly(2-methoxy, 5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-pphenylene vinylene (MEH-PPV) and Cadmium sul de (CdS) nanorods were investigated. The polymer solar cells under current investigation consisted of an indium tin oxide (ITO) transparent electrode, a poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiopene): poly(stylene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) hole-transport layer, a MEH-PPV/CdS nanorod active layer and an aluminum electrode. MEH-PPV and CdS nanorods were synthesized in-house, blended and fabricated into thin lms by using a spin-coating technique. An increase in the CdS nanorod content was found to increase the e ciency of the hybrid solar cells and to decrease the overall shunt and sheet resistance of the solar cells.
