Popis: | The Diabetic Eye Care Program at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department screened 2 70 clients for glaucoma, visual acuity, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy. Of these, 120 were referred to ophthalmologists for follow-up examination, care and, if appropriate, treatment. The program offered evaluation, referral, follow-up, and individual and group education. Our experience suggests that many people will follow eye care advice if given it, although diabetic eye disease remains a problem. Reaching the at-risk population, offering a mechanism for detecting diabetic eye disease, and providing supportive education are essential in combatting this problem. |
