Popis: From the persistence for many years of unstable, and a wide range of stable, chromosome abnormalities in the dividing cells of human leucocyte cultures, it is hypothesized that some of these cells which are believed to be small lymphocytes, have a dormant life-span which may last for several years in vivo . It is further hypothesized that these long-lived small lymphocytes are immunologically ‘committed’ and that they are an important basis of long-term immunity. The existence of such cells lessens the need for a genetic basis for stored antibody information, which can be carried adequately by a form of limited inheritance.
