Overflow erosion has been mostly studied on cohesionless model dike and with an initial breach. Very few studies concern cohesive embankment because there is neither a standard material nor a shared protocol. Dealing with erosion of cohesive soils also brings a lot of experimental difficulties. This paper reports a feasibility and exploratory study to tackle this challenge. Here a mixed sand-kaolin embankment is tested without pre-forming a breach. The used material and proposed protocol have led to a sufficiently good repeatability. Description of overflow process is detailed for this material, pointing out differences from what could be observed with cohesionless materials. |
