Popis: | SummaryA monovalent type 5 soluble antigen vaccine was prepared by methanol concentration, alkaline treatment, and brushite purification from virus propagated in WI-38 (diploid) cells. The vaccine was water-clear, contained minimal protein, and evoked high levels of neutralizing antibody in guinea pigs, suggesting a high degree of purity and effectiveness. There is no U. S. standard of potency with which to compare the results obtained, but indications are that the results are comparable, if not superior, to those reported for killed adenovirus vaccines types 3, 4, and 7. The procedures described show promise of meeting the present urgent requirements for the preparation of safe, effective adenovirus vaccines for the prevention of acute upper respiratory diseases in children and selected adult populations. |
