Popis: | Endoscopic sphincterotomy, first described in 1974/,2 is now an accepted procedure for the management of retained or recurrent bile duct stones and other miscellaneous causes of distal common bile duct obstruction. Selective cannulation of the common bile duct is necessary for safe sphincterotomy but cannot always be achieved because of papillary stenosis, duodenal diverticula, previous gastric surgery, or anatomical anomalies. This article describes a technique for using a percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) catheter to facilitate introduction of the endoscopic sphincterotome into the common bile duct. |
