This chapter links current global trends in relation to night governance and gentrification with the on-going shift in the Helsinki nightlife clustering, which has been taking place in the last ten years. It also determines the risks and consequences of this shift for nightlife in general and for electronic music in particular. Moreover, it discusses liberalisation policies, in relation to food, opening hours and alcohol consumption, their effects on the Helsinki nightlife and their connections to the on-going and massive wave of urbanisation. In particular, the districts of Kallio and Vallila, formerly working-class neighbours, will be examined. |
