Popis: | A patient with mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome is described. Surface marker analysis of her peripheral blood lymphocytes revealed a phenotype characteristic of mature T helper cells (OKT3+, OKT4+). Still, a minority of lymphocytes were reactive as well with OKT8 monoclonal antibody, and most did not form E-rosettes. Patient's cells failed to produce immunoglobulin in pokeweed mitogen (PWM)-stimulated in vitro cultures. When these cells were cocultured with normal cells they were able to help but not to suppress immunoglobulin production. The helper activity was lower than that of normal T cells and markedly radiosensitive. The similarity of the immunoregulatory function of patient's Sezary cells with that of a recently reported subset of OKT4+ cells makes them a likely candidate for a neoplastic counterpart of this normal helper T-cell subset. |
