Popis: | An 18-year-old gelding Thoroughbred was referred to Vir-ginia–Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicinefor evaluation of anorexia, pyrexia, chronic weight loss, anda distended abdomen. Three years previously, this horse wasdiagnosed with acute septic hepatocholangitis based onphysical, bacteriologic, biochemical, and histopathologicfindings.Streptococcus viridans was isolated from the liverbiopsy samples. Treatment included intravenous fluids, B vi-tamins, and antibiotics. The horse recovered and had normalblood chemistry and complete blood counts within 5 monthsof this episode. After recovery, the horse developed inter-mittent dermal photosensitization involving the lightly pig-mented skin of the distal hind limbs.Current physical examination findings included mild de-pression, lethargy, patchy alopecia and scaling, abdominaldistention, generalized muscle atrophy, and poor body con-dition. There were bilaterally symmetrical 10 3 5 3 1-cmraised swellings in the subcutaneous tissue of the prepuce.Serum biochemical analysis revealed hyperproteinemia (8.8g/dl).
