Popis: | A process to upgrade the nickel-rich fraction of the chromite ore overburden, mined from the Sukinda belt of Orissa state on the eastern coast of India, has been developed. The composition of this fraction is similar to that of the lateritic nickel ore deposits of this region. It was possible to upgrade the nickel content from an initial value of ∼ 1 wt.% to a final value of 3 wt.% NiO by selectively removing iron from the overburden, through a combination of sulphurization and chlorination processes. The optimum parameters to ensure maximum removal of iron have been established. |
