Popis: The field modulation measurement technique is currently being used to obtain accurate and complete de Haas‐van Alphen spectra for many metals. A system is described, consisting of a superconducting magnet and low temperature cryostat, which is capable of simultaneously extending the measurement ranges for temperature down to 0.3 K and for magnetic field up to 62 kG. In addition, techniques for accurate alignment of the specimen in the magnetic field and electronic instrumentation important for the detection of dHvA spectra are discussed. Finally, accurate temperature measurement techniques are described which are currently being used for the precise determination of effective cyclotron masses in metals through the amplitude dependence of the dHvA effect.
