Popis: | Two cases of subclavian-axillary-brachial artery occlusion following irradiation damage are reported. Both followed radiotherapy for carcinoma of the breast at intervals of 11 and 26 yrs respectively. The results appear to show that large and medium artery sclerosis following irradiation is slowly progressive, leading to final thrombosis not only long after the initial insult but at an extremely variable interval. The prognosis, which is related to the extent of the occlusion and the progressive peripheral ischemia, is not good unless reconstructive arterial surgery is feasible. (UK) |
