Popis: | A borderline raised thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) has been defined as a TSH concentration above the upper limit of the reference range and less than either 10 or 15mU/L,1 or a raised TSH with normal thyroxine or free thyroxine levels, whereas primary hypothyroidism is a combination of the clinical signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism together with the relevant biochemical findings.' A review of screening for thyroid disease concluded that 10% of patients with a borderline raised TSH are at risk of becoming hypothyroid within 1 year.' This study was conducted to assess the outcome of patients with a borderline raised TSH, who were not on treatment for thyroid disease, from all thyroid function test requests received by the laboratory in 1 month. |
