Popis: In the last decades erythrocyte and serum genetic polymorphisms have been extensively analysed in many Italian population samples (a wide and up-to-date review of data in literature was published in 1989 by Piazza et al.). In spite of this, some geographical areas need further research and, in order to contribute to filling these gaps, we started a wide survey in Italy some years ago using the most polymorphic erythrocyte and serum markers. Many results of these studies have been published elsewhere (De Stefano et al. 1987, Fuciarelli et al. 1987, Rickards et al. 1983, Rickards et al. 1984, Rickards et al. 1988, Rickards et al. 1990, Rickards et al. 1992, Walter et al. 1986, Walter et al. 1989, Walter et al. 1991). As a part of this survey, the main aim of this study is to complete the data on Emilia Romagna, a North Italian district in which only a few provinces have been studied for only a few genetic markers. This paper reports the results concerning four different red cell enzyme polymorphisms (acid phosphatase, ACPI; esterase D, ESD; glyoxalase I, GLOl and phosphoglucomutase locus 1, PGM1) in population samples from the pro vinces of Bologna, Ferrara, Forli, Modena and Ravenna.
