Popis: | This article analyzes the determinants of health status in WAEMU countries. To do so, the child mortality rate indicator is used to measure health status and an econometric approach based on panel data where the dynamic LSDV-Corrected estimator is used to correct for bias problems. The results show a strong involvement of socio-economic factors in the reduction of child mortality. The measurement of the importance of the different factors shows that private health expenditure is the main factor determining health status with a much greater effect of private health expenditure to which is added the quality of the environment. Thus, to reduce the differences in health observed in WAEMU countries, policymakers must increase the level of investment in the health sector and in environmental conservation.
