Popis: Within the circular restricted three-body problem an optimization scheme was employed to determine the minimum energy transfer, subject to acceptable time constraints, between the Earth and the arrival planet in the Sun-planet three body system. Following a high energy departure from Earth, a thrust control law is adopted to guide the spacecraft towards a proper final state that both in phase-space and position-space allows continuation on the manifold transporting the spacecraft ballistically in the vicinity of the planet. The Electric Propulsion system is activated along the transfer to provide an energy change resulting in a closure of the planetary region of motion, that is, capture in the planetary realm. From this point onward the spacecraft is located in the region of the target planet and is subject to the ballistic chaotic dynamics of the system. A planetary capture was designed to illustrate the capabilities of the computed transfer. The planetary transfer is accomplished in a manner infeasible without the combined merits of Electric Propulsion, continuous electric power by a Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator system and the three-body dynamics.
