Popis: | The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a pandemic that challenges societies worldwide. In Brazil a mathematical projection has predicted that at the end of the pandemic, the country will have more than 240,000 deaths, of which 175,000 will be older adults [1]. Since March 2020, social distancing has been encouraged as the primary strategy for controlling the disease, especially for high-risk individuals. Despite being a powerful weapon against COVID-19, many older adults adapt poorly to it. Many factors are related to a decrease in their quality of life such as being housebound with no visitors, inevitable changes to diet, lack of physical exercise, reduced cognitive stimulation, withdrawal of functional support and rehabilitation therapies; that ultimately could lead to physical frailty and functional disability [[2], [3], [4]]. Cancer itself has been associated with an increased risk of mortality from COVID-19 [5], and it has been recommended to reevaluate interventions to avoid unnecessary exposure [6]. It is also is known that older patients with cancer are particularly vulnerable to physical and psychological distress [7]. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the physical and psychological health and treatment of older outpatients with cancer. |
