This chapter is comprised of two parts: part one offers an overview of the directors’ work and career. It also provides a critical analysis and chronological examination of their films while describing the artistic trajectory of JPR and JRGdM’s collaborations, focusing on their obsessions and themes. Particular attention is given to the cultural, industry and production contexts of the filmmakers and their work, along with their importance within the history of Portuguese Cinema. The introduction tackles issues such as the role of the directors as national and international auteurs that bring a unique artistic contribution, placing them within the film world-system. JPR and JRGdM’s work is exhibited in (inter)national theatres, specialized film festivals, university showcases, museums and others, proof that they occupy a relevant role in different creative spaces. Part two is a presentation of the volume’s structure, which is divided into four sections: 1) Queer (Dis)Placements, Exquisite Bodies; 2) Cinematic Landscapes and Territories; 3) Artistic Practices, and 4) Interview. |
