Popis: | Atherosclerosis is considered a chronic inflammatory disease, and thereafter the degree of this pathologic process is considered to be a major determinant in plaque stability and in forecasting future events. Over the past decade, (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography has become a well-established imaging modality in evaluating various inflammatory disorders, and has been shown to be very useful in evaluating plaque activity in major arteries. This emerging noninvasive imaging modality has great potential in evaluating plaque vulnerability and in predicting the risk of future rupture and consequent thrombosis. |
