Popis: | Two viruses were isolated from the lungs of a 6-year-old boy who died with bronchopneumonia and interstitial pneumonitis after a short illness, in which symptoms and clinical findings of central nervous system disease predominated. One of these was an intermediate adenovirus, related serologically to type 21 and type 16. This antigenic structure has not, to our knowledge, been recorded previously, nor has type 21 adenovirus been reported from human disease in the Western Hemisphere to this time. The second virus, an A 2 influenza virus, was recovered from the spinal cord as well as from the lungs. |
