Popis: The purpose of the article is to analyze the system of recruitment for the diplomatic service and identify its main shortcomings and advantages. Scientific novelty is in a comprehensive research of the basic and special requirements for the diplomatic personnel on the basis of their compareness with the value and importance of the diplomatic service. Conclusions. Diplomatic service is a special form of professional activity aimed at protecting the interests, ensuring the security of society and the state in the international arena; obtaining and protecting the legal rights and freedoms of citizens abroad. The modern diplomatic service is informal, and its development is determined by the influence of internal (national level) and external factors (international level). Requirements for diplomatic staff are extremely high, as their professional level and personal qualities have a directly proportional effect on efficiency or productivity. Special requirements for employees of the diplomatic service: the presence of higher education; possession of professional skills in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; knowledge of foreign languages for the smooth performance of their duties; excellent health; the absence of any other circumstances that may interfere with the work of the diplomat were identified during the study. Analysis of the recruitment system for the diplomatic service revealed the following shortcomings: the process of selection for the diplomatic service is quite long and has many stages, and, accordingly, filling vacancies is significantly stretched over time; the existing competitive selection system does not take into account the personal qualities of candidates and some other skills and abilities (ability to drive a car, leadership skills, willingness to take responsibility); the tools used for recruitment are quite outdated. Thus, the selection process needs to be reviewed and improved, and therefore, the most promising are studies of the effectiveness of the diplomatic service, taking into account the factor of training and selection of personnel.
