Popis: | A 23-year-old white woman presented to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon at “Sagrado Coracao” University in Bauru, Brazil, to undergo mandibular third molar extraction. The patient related a history of recurrent episodes of pericoronitis, but at the time of examination she had no clinical symptoms. Intraoral examination revealed a partially erupted mandibular left third molar covered with normal mucosa. Examination revealed no caries in the tooth, but a discrete expansion was noted in the lingual cortex of the region of the mandibular left second and third molars (Fig 1). Radiographic examination showed a well-circumscribed 2-cm radiolucent lesion involving the crown of the third molar and the distal root of the second molar (Fig 2). The occlusal radiograph showed lingual expansion of the mandibular cortical bone, which was also observed clinically (Fig 3). On the basis of the clinical and radiographic features and the history of pericoronitis related by the patient, it was assumed that the lesion was a paradental cyst. |
