Popis: | We try to educate for the future while dooms day scenarios pile up in the news. We insist on measuring educational outcomes while standards, realities and futures change and collapse all around us. This paper sets out to claim irony as more than a way of humorously pointing out that times are out of joint or coming to an end, and instead emphasize irony as a productive force in both educational thinking and as a didactical means. By interrogating the educative potential of irony in the Bildungs-oriented Didaktik-tradition we argue that irony can open up the tensions and dilemmas of didactic posturing, in order to facilitate a productive decentring and self-alienating critique of our anthropocentric predicament in education. The inherent distance between the content and substance of that content in education can be hard to tease out in times where educators are caught between crowded curricula and strict testing regimes, but the irony of this is rarely lost on either pupils and teachers. Irony, we argue, is more than a constant fissure in efforts to streamline ideas of the most efficient didactical approaches and instead could be an means to open up educative processes to be attentive to what didactic posturing might be missing and how self-alienation might be a premise education as formation of the self. |
