Popis: The G6PD deficient red blood cell does have a normal level of NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase. The high affinity of this enzyme for isocitrate indicates that even low red cell isocitrate levels could be effective in regenerating NADPH. The enzyme is very stable and is not cell age dependent. The incubation of isocitric acid with the deficient cell resulted in greater GSSG reduction than when glucose was substrate. The injection of isocitric acid and sodium isocitrate was well tolerated and did stimulate significant increases of GSH in rabbits.
