The previous framework programmes of the EU spent less than 15% of their budget on medical research. In the current programme, Horizon 2020, only 10·5% of the initial budget of €80 billion is dedicated to biomedical and health-related research. This amount is equivalent to €2–3 per EU resident per year for biomedical research. |
