Popis: | An experimental and theoretical study shows that a metallic needle temperature probe will read in vivo eye tissue temperatures several degrees below the true value at depths of 5–20 mm. In this experimental study a commercially available needle probe was pushed into a preheated agar cylinder that had thermal nonconducting probes located within it at various depths. The experiment was repeated in water. An approximate theoretical treatment of the needle-agar system gave an explanation for the difference between the temperature indicated by the needle and the true temperature. This explanation was applied to the reported temperature profile along the pupillary axis of the in vivo rabbit eye to show that the reported profile may be in error by several degrees. |
