Association of mitochondria with desmosomes in the rat thyroid gland

Popis:	Some of the mitochondria in the typical thyroid epithelial cell of the rat are observed to be close to desmosomes. About half the desmosomes have at least one associated mitochondrion. The association does not appear to be due to chance because of geometric and statistical considerations. It is possible that the associated mitochondria are held in position by fibers coming from the desmosomes.
